Hiya, Mine does the same thing most of the time. What Kind of DVR do you have? I found a workaround that works 90% of the time for my Phillips DVR. I will record a minute or so of straight from TV video and stop the recording and let the DRV build its Menu and Such. Then I will switch to recording from The VHS deck and for some reason it seems to let me record without getting that blasted Disc Error message. I still Get an error message once in a while but not nearly as often as when I dont prefix the menu before I record. Once I have what I need recorded I erase the first Minute or so file before I finalize the disc though you dont have to do this step if you dont want to. I then use DVDFab to put the DVD files into my computer and then Use Either Convert X To DVD to make my own DVDs with menus or AutoGK to convert to Xvid avi. I save everything I convert to Xvid as to store More on a disc.

I have a few more Ozzie and Harriets to upload. Will try to get to them later tonight or tomorrow.

hiya mike,

how exactly do i do what you described? i have magnavox dvr/vhs combo unit. i'm not sure why it's happening. in my owner's manual there were listed some recommended blank dvd's. i wonder if this will work.

thanks ahead of time for the advice. i have about three vhs tapes full of episodes i'd like to upload.

thanks again.

emma

Hiya Miss Emma, Yes by All means try the Blanks listed by the maker first. They know what works best for your machine. Have you ever been able to copy Vhs's before now? Let me know if the blanks work. If you still get the error try to record a minute of a tv broadcast and hit stop. Let the recorder sit for a few minutes without turning it off and then try to record the tapes. On my machine it fools the recorder into thinking it is still recording tv. The rest on my last post can wait until you have luck in getting this far.
